司马博士驾到|主动学习激发学生学习动 力 2016-11-14 司马英明 MarriottCHEI Enhancing Student Motivation with Active Learning As I travel across China with the China Hospitality Education Initiative (CHEI), I’m often asked by faculty and administrators how to best motivate their students. While there are many ways to answer this question, I’d like to focus on one strategy in particular –active learning. Active learning is a broad concept that refers to any activity, or combination of activities, that allow faculty members to break from their heavy emphasis on long classroom-based lectures as the only method to facilitate learning in a classroom. While there is a time and place for long lectures, research and experience have shown that students quickly begin to lose interest and motivation when exposed to long lectures that limitinteraction. When students are unmotivated, learning comprehension and satisfaction with the education experience decrease. 在与万礼豪程团队访问中国的过程中,很多学校的领导和教 师问我怎样才能最大的激发学生的学习动力。虽然有很多方 法可以回答这个问题,我希望聚焦在一个特别的策略:主动 学习。 主动学习是一个宽泛的概念,它是指用任何一种活动或活动 的组合,打破教师将长时间讲授作为唯一课堂授课的方式。 研究与经验都表明,缺乏互动的长时间授课会使学生很快失 去兴趣和学习动力。而当缺乏学习动力时,学生的理解力和 对教育经历的满足感都会下降。 Active learning relies on two key attributes to motivate students. First, it breaks a class session into a series of small learning experiences lasting 10-20 minutes each. Some of these experiences are lectures, while others may be individual reflection or group work. Second, many active learning strategies encourage the use of real-world practical content in the learning environment. In previous blogs, Professor Du and I have stressed the importance of real-world content in courses. Finally, as an added bonus, many of the active learning strategies result in students developing their soft skills (i.e., critical thinking, communication, problem solving, etc.), skills that will help them immensely as they venture into their internships and j obs within hospitality and tourism
