II II Abstract Fluorene and its derivatives which have an aromatic biphenyl structure with wide energy gap in the backbone and high luminescent efficiency have been drawn much attention to materials chemists and device physicists. In this research, 9,9-Bis(methoxycarbonylethy)fluorene and fluorene-containing polyester were prepared. The chemical structure and properties of them were initially studied. First, with the catalysis of Benzyltrimethylammonium hydroxide (Triton-B), 9,9-Bis(methoxycarbonylethy)fluorene was prepared by Michael addition between fluorene and methyl acrylate. The substitution of two methoxycarbonylethy groups at the 9-position of the rigid planar biphenyl unit of fluorene can improve the solubility, and processability of polyfluorenes without significantly increasing the steric interaction in the backbone. Then, using Sb2O3 as catalyst, the fluorene-containing polyester based on 9,9-Bis(methoxycarbonylethy)fluorene and 1,6-Hexanediol can be directly synthesized by melting polycondensation. The chemical structure, luminescent properties, crystallite structure, molecular weight and thermal performance of monomer and polymer were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared absorption spectroscopy, ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis and thermogravimetry analysis. The experimental results indicate: 9,9-Bis(methoxycarbonylethy)fluorene was successfully synthesized. Preferable reaction conditions: reaction temperature: 80℃; reaction time: 60min; yield: 75%; m.p.: 79～81℃; elemental analysis: C 74.66%(74.54%), H 6.41%(6.55%), O 18.93%(18.91%). Fluorene-containing polyester was successfully synthesized from 9,9-Bis(methoxycarbonylethy)fluorene and 1,6-Hexanediol.
