First，the study of metaphor has a long history which can be traced back to Aristotle in ancient Greek，originally as a figure of speech to modify language then as a cognitive method 10 know Ihe world. According 10 differenl standards，met aphor is c1assified differen t ly. Second ，as metaphor involves more implications than common language，it has many diffjcu Ities in understanding and use of it. Besides，th ere are so many diffcrcnccs bctwccn lhc culturcs and backgrounds of thc sourcc lanl:，\Jugc au白。r and thc target language reader，metaphor translation is definitely a challenging work for translators. Chapter five is the applicalion of Relevance Translalion Theory to metaphor translation. Within the frame of the theory，the author tries to propose several principles of metaphor translation，which are useful and universal for the translating process of melaphor. Chapter six is a conclusion of thc whole thesis. And it pays more attention to the Iimitations of the thesis. 1.3The Research Methodology As for the method ology of the thesis，it is m aínly a qualitative analysis and íntends 10 presenl the application of Relevance Translation Theory to the praclice of metaphor translation. By illu strating the main viewpoints in the theory and analyzing typical exam pl es， the thesis explains the process of metaphor translation cJearIy. However，the thesis also adopts many data，llnder the instruction of the theory，expressing the 由eory more c1early and 巳asier to llnderstand. And when reviewing the dcveloping situation of the theory，it also involves quantitive analysis. On the whole，the thesis uses different methods to ∞mplete the research and although the author has done much work，there are stil1 some limitations of it. Whats more，there are also other researches to do
