Abstract :Through tests among four groups of non-English major postgraduates ，this study investigates the combined
effects of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL)and multimodality on EFL learners vocabulary acquisition．
The results are as follows :(1)based on the immediate test ，there is no significant difference between the effects of
MALL and Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL)on vocabulary acquisition ; 2()based on the delayed
tests ，MALL is more effective in improving vocabulary acquisition with multimodal presentations ; 3()while the
scores of the CALL groups keep decreasing ，those of the MALL groups keep increasing ，and the MALL group with
multimodality significantly outperforms the other groups in lexical retention．
