A dvance in research on secondary fire of earthquake

Abs tract: Post-earthquake fire has been recognized as a serious threat in seism ic zone. In this paper, several his-
torical records about the post-earthquake fires that caused serious damagew ere presented. Causes of the pos-t earth-
quake firew ere also d iscussed. Then researches on post-earthquake fire w ere review ed both in regional and ind ivid-
ual building levels. For the bu ildings post-earthquake fire resistance analysis, the severa-l stepsanalysis procedure
w as suggested because earthquake and fire happen subsequently. Firstly, the damage due to earthquake has to be
evaluated. Then the possib ility of fire ignition and the fire severity shou ld be analyzed. A fter that, fire resistance
analysis shou ld be conducted for the damaged building. A t last risk analysis can be conducted. There are three
kinds of damage from earthquake should be considered for th is analysis. They are the damage to non-structural fire
protection system, damage to structural fire protection system and damage to structure. R esearches on these issues
w ere review ed in th is paper.
