Measurement of transpiration isessential to assess plant w ater use efficiency.Applying Grainer method,this paper measured the sap flow of Choerospondias axillaries in an agroforestrial system, aimed to evaluate the effects of intercropping and pruning on the diurnal variation of transpiration, and to relate t he transpirat ion rate with cli matic factors.The results show ed t hat the diurnal variation of Choerosp ondias axillaries transpiration rate ap peared in parabola, low in the morning and evening, and high at noon.The transpiration rate was closely related to leaf stomatal conductivity and soil w ater potential, especially the water potential in 100 cm soil depth( R = * * 0737 ) .The transpiration rate of Choerosp ondias axillaries was increased by about 40% ~ 160% in agro forestrial system through the changes in regional environment and in the deep soil water use by tree.
