It is very similar to a once through VGO Hydrocracker flow scheme. However there are some differences. The reactor is up flow and the main recycle gas to the reactor is heater separately to a higher temperature then the feed and a smaller quantity of the recycle gas. This is to ensure no cracking occurs in the feed heater and only in the reactor. A vacuum column is also required to separate the unconverted residue (Pitch) from the Vacuum Gas Oil products. REVEAL UOP has spent considerable efforts in reviewing the flow scheme used in the CANMET Hydrocracking Process and modifying it where it was deemed advantageous to further improve the reliability of the Process and equipment.
