A Abstract PAGE PAGE IV III III In the conditions of increasingly competitive market, enterprises must quickly provide high quality, low cost products and shorten development cycle to occupy a more competitive position in the competition. Product variant design can fully take enterprises’ original design methods and experience to meet customers ’ requirements rapidly. Nowadays, the research on product variant design based on assembly model is applicable to simple assembly, but there is lack of research directed at complex assembly. Therefore, the research on product variant design based on assembly model is of great significance. The top-down design method based on the top basic skeleton, the parametric design method of product level and the modular technology, etc, are used in constructing assembly information model which is applicable to the variant design of the actual products. Based on the principle of assembly model variant design, it is to achieve the purpose of rapid variant design by changing the design parameters of skeleton model and driving the automatic update of entire product. This paper takes the gear reducer as an example to verify the feasibility of the above-mentioned methods. The main contents of this paper are as follows: Firstly, the top basic skeleton model is constructed. The basic types of interface characteristic are sumed up, the associated design methods between the module interface are researched, the dimension association relational expressions among the module interface parameters are set up. By analyzing and designing each of the component modules’ structure, the parametric models are constructed, and are assembled by the top basic skeleton, the assembly information model which can lay a foundation for the development of the product variant design system is constructed. Secondly, based on the assembly information model, the parameters of the top basic skeleton model are changed, the skeleton model achieves variant design by the dim
