A synthetic optimal objective functional involving friction loss, shock intensity and engine torque was developed. The optimum functional problem was solved for the optimal amount of overlap based upon the minimum principle. The DCT clutch engagement performance is compared when different weight values are applied in the control method by numerical simulations.
