Abstract Abstract I II Abstract In graph theory, independent numbers(called Merrifield-Simmons index), matching numbers(called Hosoya index in the chemistry) and Wiener index are three important parameter. They have significant applied background and are typical examples of graph invariants used in mathematical chemistry for quanti- fying relevant details of molecular structure. In recent years, quite a lot of work has been done on the extremal problem for these three indices, i.e.,the problem of determining the graphs within certain prescribled classes that maximize or minimize the index value. In this paper, we will investigate the geometrically non-planar triangular chains and attain the extremal chains with respect to these three indices. Here are main results in this paper. For any triangular chain Bn ∈ Φnand any k ≥ 0, ik (Ln) ≤ ik (Bn) ≤ ik (Hn), with left equality holds for all k if and only if Bn = Ln and right equality holds for all k if and only if Bn = Hn. For any triangular chain Bn ∈ Φnand any k ≥ 0, mk (Hn) ≤ mk (Bn) ≤ mk (Ln), with left equality holds for all k if and only if Bn = Hn and right equality holds for all k if and only if Bn = Ln. For any triangular chain Bn ∈ Φn, W (Hn) ≤ W (Bn) ≤ W (Ln), with left equality holds if and only if Bn = Hn and right equality holds if and only if Bn = Ln.
