Degree The Representation of Stylistic Features of EST in E-C Translation Candidate: Liu Jilu Supervisor: Prof. Tian Qiang Academic Degree Applied for: Master of Arts Specialty: Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Affiliation: School of Foreign Languages Date of Oral Examination: July 2, 2009 Degree Conferring Institution : Harbin Institute of Technology HIT HIT Graduation Thesis for the MA Degree -II- -II- 摘要 由于世界科技交流的需求，科技英语翻译在中国乃至全世界范围都得到了广泛 研究和探索。中国学者以往的研究，通常是从普通语言学的角度，对科技英语翻译 进行探索。随着近年来文体学的兴起和发展，利用文体学理论对科技英语翻译的研 究吸引了众多学者的兴趣。 本文以奈达的等效理论为基础，从文体特征的角度对科技英语翻译方法进行了 探索。本文所引用的词语，例句和语篇摘自建筑英语，机械英语，信息技术英语等 多个领域。本文提出，在研究科技英语翻译时，应该特别注重科技英语文体特征在 翻译中的体现。 首先，科技英语区别于其他英语的重要文体特征是其具有准确性、简洁性、客 观性、逻辑性及连贯性。本文通过大量的例子表明文体特征主要体现在词汇、句法、 语篇三个层面。 其次，本文探索了可以体现科技英语文体特征的翻译方法。在词汇层面上，主 要研究了选词、直译、意译、音译等翻译方法；在句法层面上，主要探索了词性转 换法、被动句的翻译方法、长句的翻译方法如顺译、逆译等；在语篇层面上，主要 探讨了衔接的翻译方法，包括省略、增词、重复关键词等。在本文研究的各层次中， 着重研究语篇层面，即借助衔接手段确保篇章的连贯性。 最后，本文通过研究得出结论，科技英语的文体风格应通过相应的翻译方法在 其中文译稿中得到完美体现。 关键词 科技英语翻译; 文体特征; 翻译方法 - - PAGE IV- Abstract As part of the answer to the demand of communication of science and technology throughout the world, the translation of EST has been studied widely both at home and abroad. Normally Chinese scholars explore the translation of EST from the perspective of general linguistics. With the thriving and development of stylistics, studies on EST translation by using the stylistic theory have attracted many scholars’ interests. On the basis of the the equivalent theory of Nida, this thesis explores the EST translation methods from the perspective of stylistic features. The examples of words, sentences, and texts in this thesis come from architecture English, mechanical English, information technology English, etc. it is proposed in the thesis that special attention should be paid to the representation of the stylistic features of EST in translation when researching into EST translation.
