ABSTRACTFrom ABSTRACT From the world scope view,the development of cross-river city is a very widespread phenomenonthrough the whole development history of city．In our country,this phenomenon is more outstanding．In the near future，because of strengthening of social economic power and the progress of cross-river transportation technical，big,medium，small city are all at rapid expand，some of riverside cities are or have already striding acTOSS rivers． The dissertation analyzes problems existing in the construction of cross-river area,based on the research on urban morphology of cross-river city,and constructs the level of urban design as well as methods and content ofthe level． The dissertation is composed of three sections：problem，analysis and solution． Introduction：the chapter put forward the research subject，briefly introduces the background，the situation，the content,and the significance of choosing the subject,also defines the relative conception and of subject and summarizes the classification ofcross-river city． The first part，the chapter points out several problems of urban morphology under current cross-river area development in China．Main problems include the eity out of river,the lack of relative banks，the weakening of river special feature，the weak ecological construction and SO on． The second part，with the analysis of the formulation of urban morphology of cross-river city,the chapter abstracts the development principles of urban space structure of cross-fiver eity．Based OR the Ⅱ principles principles and methods used in modem urban design,it investigates specific content of urban design of cross-river area from five parts including overall structure，open space，traffic，entity landscape and place oflife．T The third part，combining the basic design guidelines，the chapter put forward several methods from five parts including integration of urban structure as well as integration of open space，traffic，entity landscape and place of life．All these principl
