As a carrier of traditional opera, ancient stages is used to link the various Chinese ancient religious customs and folk culture. And at the same time, these stages are carrying the relationship between traditional opera art form and drama performance, even the national sentiments and spirit. Ancient stages can be recognized as the witnesses to the formation of Chinese opera, and these stages have promoted the development and flourish of drama. Therefore, ancient stages are considered as the invaluable “solid drama culture”. What’s more, the ancient stages also show the beautiful and brilliant ancient architectural art. The opera culture in Xiaoyi is very prosperous. In addition to the traditional Jin Opera, Xiaoyi also has the extremely local characteristic shadow play, puppet show and the WanWanQiang, which are also reflected in Xiaoyi ancient stages constructions. The author has carried on the systematic inspections to the ancient stage constructions in towns of Xiaoyi and finds that more than 53 ancient stages exist in these towns. There are two ancient stages in Daxiaobu town, six ancient stages in Ducun town, eight ancient stages in Wutong town, five ancient stages in Gaoyang town and Zhupu town, four ancient stages in Nanyang town, Xiabu town and Duizhen town. There are also four ancient stages and five puppet stages in the surrounding villages of Xiaoyi City. In these ancient stages, there are two Ming dynasty stages, which respectively are SanHuangMiao glass stage and LongTian temple stage of Xiaoyuan village.
