Foreign language teaching(FLT)‘is a very complicated process,in which various factors interact in complex ways to affect its efficiency.ThougIl the focus of attention has switched from teaching to learning and learner factors,teaching methodology is still very important aspect. Without an English language environment,and with limited exposure to the language,most Chinese learners, especially those in inland province like Sichuan,have to learn English mainly under formal classroom instruction.Teaching,therefore,is very important for them

Vice Premier Li Lanqing(1997)points out,“The issues of teaching materials, teachers and the language situations are all very important in FLT,but the critical issue is most likely the teaching method.’’The present author has conducted a survey
on teaching methods in language skill courses for English majors.The subjects under investigation are the teachers of English in the English Departments of 9 teachers colleges in Sichuan Province.In all,123 copies ofthe questionnaires have been sent back.More th
