Taxol ( generi nam e pa litaxel), a omp lex d iterpene am ide derived firstly from the Pa ifi yew (Taxusbre ifolia ) tree, has been approved as an mi portant pharma euti al drug. Th is antitumor and antileukem i agen t is effe tive against several an ers su h as ovarian and breast ar inomas. M ore re ently, taxol has shown prom ising resu lts in drug2eluting oronary artery stents used in the treamt ent of diseased vas ulature. In th is paper, the re ent resear h progresses in Taxus ultivation, T axol hem i al sem i2 synthesis, Taxus ell ulture, endophyti fungus ulture and Taxolm etaboli engineering are surveyed.
