Abstract Object Anthraquino nes present in the leaves of A loe L a re the m ain activ e principle f o r m edical purposes. T heref ore, to study their rela tionship i s of g rea t interest to t he medical prof essio n. Methods　 Leav es of 11 species of Aloe L. w ere studied by phy to to my , hi st ochemistry and phy tochem- istry. Results　 The structures of t he aloe leav es were basically similar as cha ract erized by the presence of the la rg e, well developed parenchyma tous cell s in the phloem pole where anth raquinones w ere st ored. Som e positiv e co rrela tions exist betw een the co nt ent s of anthroquinones in the leav es of diff erent species and different par ts of leaves of the sam e species, and som e phyt ot omic facto rs including the density of v as- cula r bundles, th e ratio of la rg e parenchymat ous cell s in phloem and the thickness of the chlorenchyma.
