Teaching content:9A Chapter 5 Reading P66-67
Teaching aim 1. Knowledge: According to the passage, let the students learn some main words, phrases and understand the feature from a student newspaper containing five short articles about different aspects of memory.
2. Abilities: Know the kinds of memory and learn some methods of memory
3. Emotions and attitudes: Memory is very important. We should practice it every day.
Key teaching points:
1 Learn the main phrases: in order ; agree to do sth; a long time ago; lose memory; have an accident; be angry with;
link method; etc.
2 Understand the passage (Paragraph 1-4)
3 Know some differences of the words: look/see/watch/read; in hospital/in the hospital; a few/few
Difficult teaching points: die/dead/death/dying
Learning strategies: Listening, speaking and reading
Teaching methods: Task-based teaching approach and situational method
Teaching aids: Multimedia equipment, blackboard
Teaching steps:
The teacher introduces the passage. It is a feature from a student newspaper containing five short articles about different aspects of memory.
﹡Students’ activity: Listen carefully and understand what the teacher said.
﹡Purpose: Let the students come into English language world
Step 1 Pre-task preparation
Use some pictures to learn the words: star/garage/shadow/hawker/judge/ankle/helicopter/
chapter/queue/metre
﹡Students’ activity: Use 20 minutes to remember the words.
﹡Purpose: Test the students’ memory
Step 3 While-task procedure
1. Listen to the recording of Paragraph 1 and 2, then answer the questions.

﹡Purpose: Practice their listening and speaking.
