Teaching procedures:
Step 1 warming up
·Share a song. It is called Mama which is sung by Il Divo, a group of four talented musicians in America.
·Have a free talk: In China, we have lots of songs for mom, too. Do you know them? List them.(Listen to mother’s word / Mother in the candlelight )
Step2 pre-reading
·First, help students find the ways to show your love to your mother, such as writing a poem for her.
·Next, present the poem“Youziyin” in English. Read and guess what the Chinese meaning of the poem.What do you think the Chinese poem is about? Then lead in, today, we’ll learn a poem for mom. “mother knows best”. Discuss what the title means with yor partmer.
Step 3 While-reading
·First, present your work after previewing. (new words and expressions that you’ve preview before class.)
·Then, skim the poem and tell us the process of the boy’s growth.The poem is about a boy’s growth. At first , he was a baby, next, he was two…. Now , he is an adult. What do you think his mom?(His mother played an important role in his life.)
·Next, Group work. Try to divide the whole poem into three parts. Do you know the main idea of each part.
Three parts show the changes of the boby’s emotion towards his mother. when he was very young, he relied on his mother a lot. As the time went by, he wanted to be independent, so he is tired of his mother’s love, of course. At last, he realized what true love is.
·Analyse the parts one by one.
