Step 3 Reading 1.Fast Reading(Skimming and Scanning) Tell Ss to read the passage quickly, and answer the questions. Para.1 (2 minutes) (1). Is basketball a much-loved and active sport? Yes, (it is). (2). When was the first basketball game in history played? On December 21,1891. (3). Why were the Berlin Olympics important for basketball ? Because it became an Olympic event then. Para.2 (2 minutes) (1). Who invented basketball ? A Canadian doctor named James Naismith. (2). How many teams are there in a basketball game? Two teams. Para.3 (1 minutes) (1). What are the professional basketball groups in America and China? They’re NBA in America and CBA in China. 2. Careful Reading (1). T: Now let’s read the mind map in 2c. Try to understand the meaning of the map. Ask Ss to complete the mind map with the information in the passage.
