People give their houses a clean-up ,then put up red couplets , door gods , and hang out red lanterns. It’s said to scare away the beast “Nian”.; In many cities, Flower Fairs are held a few days before the Spring Festival. Kumquat trees, peach blossoms and peony are the most popular ones. They are usually the symbols of good luck, long life and richness. ; The New Year’s Eve dinner is a “must” meal with all the family members getting together. So wherever they are, people will try to get home before the meal begins.; After that, families sit together and watch CCTV New Year Gala. It is the biggest entertainment feast of the year.; People stay up late waiting for the New Year to arrive. Just as the clock strikes 12, a new year begins on the Chinese lunar calendar, and the sound of fireworks can be heard with very loud noise.; “Lucky money” is the kids’ favorite. Parents and grandparents put the money in small, red envelopes called “hongbao” and give them to their kids. The money is believed to bring good luck.; On the first day of the New Year, everybody wears new clothes and greets relatives and friends with bows, saying Gongxi, which means congratulations, and wishing each other good luck and happiness in the New Year. ; There are many kinds of traditional food for the New Year.
