Ownership of Houses in a Big City in China According to the figures given in the chart we can see that great changes have taken place in the ownership of houses in cities in China from 1990 to 2000. The percentage of the private houses has increased in these years，in 1990 only twenty five percent of them and in 1995 the percentage has increased from 25 to 40，and the figures even reached a high point of eighty percent in 2000. Meanwhile，the percentage of the state-owned houses has gradually dropped，from 75 percent in 1990 to 20 percent in 2000. There are many reasons for this phenomenon. Firstly，influenced by traditional ideas，most people feel at ease if they have their own houses. Living in their own houses also brings them the sense of security because it’s just like a harbour they could hide inside. Besides，owning a private house also benefits future generations. Those who don’t have private houses may be look down upon in the society，especially for men. It’s well known to all of us that some girls will take the private house into consideration when they choose boyfriends or husbands. Secondly，if someone has the ownership of a house，he can decorate it into however he likes，while this is not allowed in the house he rent. And if he rents a house，he should worry about the rent，what the landlord requested and other trivial things. Thirdly，many people start to understand that buying houses is a good and worthy investment.They can rent other people the empty houses or sell them at the proper time. In a word，they can make great profits from the rent or the sale of the houses. Fourthly，if someone plans to live in a city for all his life，owning a private house means taking root in this place indeed. Last but not Least，people earn more money than before because of the development of economy, and they can buy new houses with the help of loans from banks. These are the reasons why people are thirsty of the private houses even though the price of the houses keeps on increasin
