Teaching Belief
Students are the leading part of the class, especially for a reading class. Teachers
are the guide for the class; they should be given positive feedback to encourage them to participate into the discussion and other activities.
The knowledge can be put into practice after class. Teachers should construct this connection between knowledge and life and lead students to realize it, so they can use it in real life.
Material Analysis
The passage is from PEP NSEFC UNIT 1, Using Language Part (Reading and discussing), the title of the text is “Journey down the Mekong: Part 2 A Night in the Mountains”. The story of this article picks up the story of the former article’s on Page 18. It narrates travelling through Tibet and the cold mountains where the river Mekong has its source. It includes descriptions of scenery and some of the writer’s feelings. There are many words describing the scenery and the feelings in the passage. The theme of this passage is to raise their awareness to appreciate the beauty of nature.
Students Analysis
Firstly, as for the content of the article, the students are from the ordinary class in Grade one in senior high school. They have learned the first part of “Journey down the Mekong”, that is Wang Kun and Wang Wei’s dream and their preparation, so they have known some ideas of their trip, for example, the route of their trip. However, they have never been to Tibet and spent a night in mountains; they lack relative knowledge about what is the scenery in Tibet and what to do during the night.
Secondly, about the language expression skills of students, most of them can communicate with partners in English and they are active in class discussion, but they still lack the ability of critical thinking.
Thirdly, about the reading skills
