* * * * * * * Additionally, managing the spectrum has increased in complexity over time with the influx of more and more devices that operate in the frequency. Wireless LANs operate in the unlicensed frequencies (2.4GHz and 5GHz), but so do many other devices. The problem is this spectrum is a finite resource and with each new device that is using that spectrum, the ability to deliver continual 802.11n performance becomes more challenging. At the same time, the cost of supporting the network increases as more and more users call the helpdesk with wireless connectivity issues. * So the challenge is clear. How to deliver a truly mission critical wireless network in the midst of more and more sources of interference in an already limited spectrum and with an IT staff that often times doesn’t have the time or the expertise to address wireless management issues. This challenge is highlighted by a recent Cisco study of over 550 enterprises. 78% of these companies indicated that all or part of their wireless network was considered mission critical. Yet, at the same time, 54% had experienced significant wireless performance impact due to wireless interference. Many more had no understanding at all of the impact that wireless interference caused on their networks. * Cisco is addressing these challenges by introducing CleanAir technology. CleanAir allows IT to understand the air quality within their network and then deliver the network intelligence required to optimize around any air quality issues. In this diagram, you see two users who are experiencing wireless performance issues. The guy on the left has no idea what is causing his connectivity issues. But, the guy on the right – who has CleanAir – can determine that interference is causing poor air quality.
