Lubrication 6 - * Also Called Oil Bath Lubrication. Considered as baseline for friction comparisons among various oil lubrication methods Static oil bath level = center of bottom-most rolling element. Minor oil level variations higher or lower from center of bottom-most ball can influence operating temperature. Minimum oil level = 1 mm above outer ring shoulder diameter. Visual sight gauge recommended on the bearing housing, even when a constant level oiler is employed, to ensure proper oil height. ISO VG 68 oil typically used in centrifugal pump applications to ensure 13 mm2/s (70 SUS) minimum required viscosity is maintained at the bearing operating temperature. Oil bath replacement generally recommended every 6 months for typical applications. Regular condition monitoring of the oil including viscosity, oxidation, and solid particle and moisture contaminant levels are recommended at regular intervals to ensure highest quality. Changing the oil after the first 5-10 operating hours can greatly extend the life of some applications. Lubrication 6 - * Oil is conveyed to the tapered flinger by an oil Ring which dips into the oil bath. Note the pressure equalization ducts (top and bottom) which prevent leakage when the housings are located in an air stream. Lubrication 6 - * Oil Temps in the Tank are generally kept at 120 F to keep out water and prevent shock to bearing components. Objective with Circ. Oil is to prevent oil Viscosity from getting too thin in the bearing. Dry sump is preferred method. Exit should be 2x inlet size. Contact SKF for flow rate recommendations. Filtration: 25 Micron absolute is a potential starting point for filtration. Go to 10 micron absolute as feasible.. Prefiltering oil from vendors is becoming more commonplace. Lubrication 6 - * Directed mist (Left Figure) is recommended when n dm 300,000 or when axial loads are high.
