Yellowstone National Park is a national park located primarily in the U.S. state of Wyoming, although it also extends into Montana and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone, widely held to be the first national park in the world, is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features. Grand Prismatic Spring was named by them for its striking coloration. Its colors match the rainbow dispersion of white light by an optical prism[pr?z?m] : red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. Mammoth Hot Spring[m?m?θ](猛犸象温泉) Mammoth Hot Springs is a large complex of hot springs on a hill of travertine [tr?v?ti:n] in Yellowstone National Park adjacent [??d?e?snt] to Fort Yellowstone and the Mammoth Hot Springs Historic District.It was created over thousands of years as hot water from the spring cooled and deposited calcium[k?ls??m] carbonate[kɑ:b?ne?t] (over two tons flow into Mammoth each day in a solution).
