RULES FOR BUILDING AND CLASSING STEEL VESSELS UNDER 90 METERS (295 FEET) IN LENGTH 2006 NOTICE NO. 3 – February 2007 The following Rule Change was approved by the ABS Classification Committee on 25 January 2007 and becomes EFFECTIVE AS OF 1 FEBRUARY 2007. (See /rules/downloads.html for the consolidated version of the Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels Under 90 meters (295 feet) in Length 2006, updated in November 2006, with all Notices and Corrigenda incorporated.) Notes - The date in the parentheses means the date that the Rule becomes effective for new construction based on the contract date for construction, unless otherwise noted. (See 1-1-4/3.3.) - The date in the parentheses with underline means that the Rule becomes effective based on the “keel laying” date or similar stage of construction. PART 1 CONDITIONS OF CLASSIFICATION CHAPTER 1 SCOPE AND CONDITIONS OF CLASSIFICATION SECTION 4 RULES FOR CLASSIFICATION 3 Effective Date of Rule Change 3.3 Implementation of Rule Changes (Add new paragraph to Subparagraph 1-1-4/3.3.2, as follows.) 3.3.2 Date of Contract for Construction (1 February 2007) The date of “contract for construction” of a vessel is the date on which the contract to build the vessel is signed between the prospective owner and the shipbuilder. The date is required to be indicated on the form, “Application of Request for Classification”. If the signed contract for construction is amended to change the ship type, the date of “contract for construction” of this modified vessel, or vessels, is the date on which the revised contract or a new contract is signed between the owner, or owners, and the shipbuilder.
