PAGE Teaching Plan for The Booming Boots of Joey Jones Teacher: Huang Shaozhu (Fujian Youxi No.1 Middle School) Time: 10:05-10:50 Jan. 17, 2014 Target students: Class 13 Senior 1 Teaching Objectives By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: 1. analyze characters and thread of the story; 2. appreciate the vivid and dramatic descriptions; 3. generate the theme based on their own understanding: doing the best; 4. develop their language thinking abilities: logical thinking, critical thinking creative thinking; and 5. grow more interested in the literature-reading. Step Two Reading and Appreciating (16’) Q: Which paragraphs will you choose to read aloud and share with your friends? Why did you choose the paragraphs to read aloud? Give your reasons. Invite some of the students to read some paragraphs aloud. Qs: What is the most interesting or impressive sentence/paragraph/ chapter/description in the story? Why? Invite some Ss to participate in the activity. Vivid descriptions; Language appreciation The skills of reading aloud; Appreciation of dramatic and vivid descriptions; Speaking; Logical thinking; Critical thinking Step Three Inquiring (16’) I. Character Analysis Q1: Which character do you think is the most impressive? Why? Q2: What was Joey thinking and feeling at different times? (Did his feelings have many ups and downs?) The protagonist’s psychological experience was one thread running through the story. Ask the students to describe and find out the protagonist’s feelings of ups and downs according to some illustrations. Invite some Ss to participate in the activity. II. Make a short summary
