In this case, they may decide to adopt a child. In fact, adopti on is very com mon today. There are about 60 thousa nd adopti ons each year in the Un ited States alone. Some people prefer to adopt infan ts, others adopt older childre n, some couples adopt childre n from their own coun tries, others adopt childre n from foreig n coun tries. The decisi on to search for birth pare nts is a difficult one to make. Most adoptees have mixed feeli ngs about finding their biological pare nts. Even though adoptees do not know about their n atural pare nts, they do know that their adopted pare nts want them, love them and will care for them.
