Office etiquette are formal rules of behavior that make professi onal encoun ters pleasa nt and productive. While certa in procedures may seem awkward or wasteful to you as you begi n worki ng in a new situati on, resist the urge to make immediate cha nges. Discover how things are done and why. Observe how others an swer the teleph one, dress, decorate desks or office space, sn ack on the job, circulate memos, etc. Establish in your mind other peoples priorities before asserting your own. Any cha nges you in itiate will have more validity after you have familiarized yourself with the customary procedures.
