Step1 Greeting and lead-in.
1. Greet the students in everyday English.
2. Lead-in
Show a picture of a bike and talk about it to lead in the new lesson.
T: What’s this?
S: It’s a bike.
T: Yes, this is my bike. I bought the bike three years ago. So I can say“I’ve had the bike for three years”.
Step 2 Presentation
Show different kinds of things and present the target language:
I bought the book seven years ago. I have had the book for seven years.
I bought the watch three years ago. I have had the watch for three years.
I bought the cellphone two years ago. I have had the cellphone for two years. Step 3 Ask and answer
Ask and answer with students to make students understand the sentence pattern.
T: Do you have...?
S1: Yes, I do.
T: How long have you had it/them?
S1: I have had it/them for...
Step 4 Pair work
Ask students to make conversations in pairs by using the following pattern.
A: Do you have...?
B: Yes, I do.
A: How long have you had it/them?
B: I have had it/them for...
Ask some pairs to show their conversations to the whole class.
Step 5 Work in three
