The Spring Festival falls on the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar. It is to Chinese what Christmas is to Westerners. People give red envelopes to children for good luck. However, my favorite part is lighting firecrackers on the eve of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Unfortunately, this old custom has been banned in cities for environmental consideration. However, solutions are always outnumbering problems. We decided to use balloons to replace firecrackers. In the morning, we set off early to buy balloons and tools we needed. Then, after a whole afternoon of hard work, a room of colourful balloons were finally ready, waiting to burst. When the clock struck 12, I jumped into the balloon pool with all my family. Everybody was laughing, jumping and shouting excitedly. That was the moment I started to understand everything we did. It was the family’s getting together that really mattered. Working all afternoon was totally worth it! I absolutely enjoyed our way of celebrating the new year without harming the environment and can’t w
