General considerations for planning swine production units: 1) Consider the whole system/operation, not just one unit at a time. 2) Ways to handle feed, pigs waste, i.e., patterns of movement or flow. 3) Possibility of expansion in the future. B. Site selection considerations: 1) Wind direction - Potential odor problems for neighbors own family. 2) Accessibility to roads, power water supplies. 3) Existing facilities should be used only if they fit the overall plan. 4) Drainage environmental concerns, i.e., waste-runoff, aesthetics others for the community, neighbors own family. 5) Zoning law - Be aware of local zoning laws!
