Methods A total of 80 plasma cell mastitis patients were randomly divided into control group and observation group， with 40 cases in each group. The control group received surgical therapy， and the observation group also received dexamethasone for treatment. Comparison were made on clinical efficacy， treatment time， symptom improvement time and occurrence of advee reactio between the two groups. Results The observation group had obviously higher total treatment effective rate as 92.5% than 75.0% in the control group， and the difference was statistically significant （P0.05）. The observation group had obviously shorter swelling， pain， mass， time of disappearance of nipple discharge disappearance time and treatment time than the control group， and their difference was statistically significant （P0.05）. No advee reactio of nausea， vomiting， rash and diarrhea occurred in both groups during treatment， and no abnormalities were found in the routine examination of hematuria and liver and kidney function. Conclusion Application of dexamethasone shows remarkable effect in treating plasma cell mastitis， and it can help early remission of symptoms， improve cure rate and shorten treatment coue without obvious advee reactio.
