State Key Laboratory of SubtropicalSilviculture ，Zhejiang Agriculture ＆ Forestry University ，Lin ’an 311300 ，Zhejiang ，China) Abstract :To determine the impacts of different bamboo ages on the afforestation effect on using Phyllostachys violascens ，the authors investigated on field the DBH ，number of shoots ，young bamboos and degraded shoots ，and the height of degraded shoots of afforestation using 1-year and 2-year old mother bamboo respectively. The result showed that the rate of shooting ，survival bamboo ，and degraded shoot ，the diameter of survival bamboo by using two-year old mother bamboo were significantly higher than using one-year old mother bamboo ，and however there was no significant difference on the height of degraded shoot. The study results provides a basis for the selection of the age of mother bamboo in afforestation of Ph. violascens. Key words :Phyllostachys violascens ，afforestation ，mother bambo
