Using SYMMIC™ with Microwave Office® Thermal yses of MMIC or module layouts in AWRs Microwave Office can be easily generated through the application of the Layout_To_SYMMIC script described in the Appendix. The script can be imported into an AWR project through the scripting editor, by right clicking on the projects Code Module folder and selecting the Import.. . item. Thermal ysis for a few example projects from Microwave Office 2010 are described below, with the example files available in the associated distribution. MMIC_Two_Stage_Amp Layout of MMIC_Two_Stage_Amp in Microwave Office. The MMIC_Two_Stage_Amp example, shown above, contains a layout for an amplifier with 2 FETs. This layout window must first be selected and dis yed in Microwave Office in order for the correct MMIC dimensions to be made available to the Layout_To_SYMMIC script. Next, the generic FET tem te is reconfigured to match the dimensions of the N67300 FET used in the MMIC. This file is saved as FET1.xml. Run the Layout_To_SYMMIC script in Microwave Office and select Two_Stage_SS_Amp as the main layout of the MMIC in the left column. A “SYMMIClayout” data file will be created and dis yed in the project. As shown below, enter the FET1.xml tem te in the next dialogs edit box, check the Mirror tem te in X box and set the Angle of device relative to tem te to 180° to reflect the differences in orientation between the N67300 device in Microwave Office and FET1.xml in SYMMIC. Select the two N67300 devices from the list and press the Add to Layout button. The locations of the two FETs will be added to the data file. Then press the Complete button which will add the closing tag to the data file and exit the script. Export the data file as a text file with the .xml extension, s e the SYMMIC program uses XML for input file syntax.
