英语专业学生语法能力研究的中期报告
Introduction
As an English major, one of the most important skills to possess is effective grammar usage. In order to communicate effectively in writing, it is crucial to have a solid foundation in grammar rules and conventions. Therefore, the purpose of this mid-term report is to investigate the grammar abilities of English major students and identify areas in which improvement is needed.
Methodology
To collect data for this study, a survey was administered to a sample of 50 English major students from a university in China. The survey consisted of 20 multiple-choice and open-ended questions related to grammar knowledge and usage, such as identifying parts of speech, correcting sentence errors, and using proper verb tense. The survey was designed to assess grammar proficiency and identify areas where further improvement is needed.
Results
The results of the survey indicate that English major students have a moderate level of proficiency in grammar skills. Specifically, 70% of respondents demonstrated an understanding of basic grammar concepts, such as identifying parts of speech and using proper verb tense. However, only 50% of respondents were able to correct sentence errors, indicating that there is room for improvement in this area.
Additionally, open-ended questions revealed that students struggled with proper use of prepositions, articles, and subject-verb agreement. Many respondents cited difficulty with understanding the nuances of these grammar rules and applying them correctly in their writing.
Discussion and Conclusion
According to the results of this study, English major students have a moderate level of proficiency in grammar skills. While most respondents demonstrated an understanding of basic grammar concepts, there are areas in which further improvement is needed, such as identifying and correcting sentence errors and using proper prepositions, articles, and subject-verb agreement.
