BulkQueryingBulkqueryingreferstotheretrievalofrows(usuallyalargenumberofrows)intoaPL/SQLcollectiontobeusedforfurtherprocessing.bytheusesofbothimplicitandexplicitcursors.UsinganimplicitSELECT...INTOwhenbulkqueryinginvolvesusingtheBULKCOLLECTclausewiththeINTOclause.ExamplesExamplesProsvs.ConsTheprimaryadvantagesofdoingabulkqueryareperformancereducedelapsedtime,andlessamountoflatchingHowever,thiscomesatanexpenseofmemoryifthenumberofrowsfetchedishuge(thatis,inthehundredsofthousands).Thememorylimitationcanbeovercomeifthenumberofrowsfetchedislimitedtoacertainvalueeachtimetheyarefetched.Thiswaytheentiresetofrowscanbefetchedinmultiplesetsofthislimitvalue,thuseliminatingtheneedtocachealltherows.Set-at-a-TimeRowRetrievalInthecontextofbulkquerying,set-at-a-timerowretrievalmeansfetchingtherequiredrowsinsetsinsteadoffetchingallrowsatonce.Thisamountstolimitingthenumberofrowsfetchedatatime—thatis,inasinglefetch—insteadoffetchingalltherowsinasinglefetch.Thismayresultinmorecontextswitchesthanwhenalltherowsarefetchedinasinglefetchbutisoptimalwhenthelimitingvalueiscorrectlyspecified.Anaccuratelimitingvalueresultsinbothperformanceandmemorybenefits.ExamplesNotingThelimitvalueaffectstheperformanceofthebulkquerying.Alargerlimitvaluemaynotalwaysresultinthebestperformance.Theexitconditionfortheoutercursorloopisspecifiedafterthereturnedrowsareprocessed.ThisdiffersfromnormalexplicitcursorloopwheretheexitconditioniscodedimmediatelyfollowingtheFETCHstatement.Thisisbecausethe%NOTFOUNDcursorattributereturnsTRUEifthenumberofrowsactuallyretrievedislessthanthelimitvalue.ThiswillresultintheremainderofrowsinthelastchunknotbeingprocessediftheEXITiscodedimmediately
