ThefilmisaboutayoungmannamedMichaelOher--anextremelylargeblackteenagerwhohasbouncedfromhometohomeinthefostercaresystem.Currently,hesinanewschoolandnoonerealizesthathehasnoplacetolive.Yetinspiteofhavingacrack-addictedmother,afatherwhowaskilledinprisonandeveryotherreasontobeanangrypowderkeg,hesaverygentleandsadsoulwhoisalsoenormousandhasamazingpotentialtoplayfootball.
Anosybutverynicelady(SandraBullock)convincesherhusband(TimMcGraw)tobringMichaelhome...atleastforthenight.Butthisonenightturnsintoapermanentlivingsituationandhebecomesanimportantpartofthefamily.However,despitethisnewlivingarrangementworkingoutwell,MichaelissofarbehindinschoolandhisGPAsolowthathehasntaprayertoplayfootballincollege.Thatsbecausealthoughmanyschoolsarenowofferinghimathleticscholarships,hisGPAistoolowtoallowhimtoaccepttheseoffers.So,withhisnewfamilyshelp,perhapshecanpullupthosegradesandhaveafuture.
Thisfilmissuper-inspirationalandsweet--mostlybecauseitstrue.Iamsurethatsomepoeticlicensewastakenwhenmakingthefilm(IespeciallywonderifthelittlebrothercouldbeTHISprecociousandadorable),butoveralltheydidagoodjobofstickingreasonablyclosethefacts.WhileIlovedSandraBullocksperformance(shesgreatasusual),IwasabitsurprisedthatshereceivedOscarforit--Ididseeafewperformancesin
