概念：情态动词是表示“能力、可能性、请求、许可”等含义的辅助动词，不能单独作谓语，必须和动词原形连用。

例句：

can

含义：

·能力(现在的能力)

·ShecanspeakEnglish.

·Birdscanfly.

●许可(口语中较随意)

·CanIuseyourpen?(朋友间常用)

·可能性(理论上的可能)

·Smokingcancausecancer.

注意：否定形式是cannot/cant。;

could

含义：

·过去的能力(was/wereableto)

·WhenIwas5,Icouldrideabike.

·委婉请求(比can更礼貌)

·Couldyouhelpme,please?

·可能性较低(比can更不确定)

·Itcouldraintomorrow.(可能但不确定)

注意：could也可以表示“现在”的委婉语气，不一定是过去时!;

含义：

·正式请求/许可(比can/could更礼貌、正式)

·可能性(比might更确定，比can更正式)
