AbstractTiminganomaliesarecounter-intuitivebehaviorsobservedinworst-caseexecutiontime(WCET)analysis.

Akeyaspectoftheseanomaliesisthatalocallyfasterexecutiondoesnotnecessarilyleadtoareductionintheoverall

programexecutiontime.Therefore,WCETanalysismustexamineallpossibleexecutionstatesconservativelyto

ensurethesafetyoftheanalysisresults,makingtheprocessextremelychallenging.Onthecontrary,ifitcanbe

ensuredthattherearenotiminganomaliesintheprogramandplatformtobeanalyzed,thenumberofstatesandthe

timerequiredforWCETanalysiscanbesignificantlyreduced.Consequently,addressingtiminganomaliesisacritical

challengeinWCETanalysis.However,despitemorethan20yearsofresearch,theacademiccommunityhasnot

reachedaunifieddefinitionandconsensusontheproblemoftiminganomalies.Thisarticlereviewsvarious

perspectivesfromtheliteraturesincetheconceptoftiminganomalieswasfirstintroduced.Weclassifythese

viewpointsbasedontheirdefinitionsanddescriptions,andevaluatethei
