economythantheUnitedStates.GoldmanSachsprojected2027.Thepost-crisis

projectionis2020.That’sjustadecadeaway.Chinaisgoingtochangetheworldin

twofundamentalrespects.Firstofall,it’sahugedevelopingcountrywitha

populationof1.3billionpeople,whichhasbeengrowingforover30yearsataround

10percentayear.Andwithinadecade,itwillhavethelargesteconomyintheworld.

Neverbeforeinthemodernerahasthelargesteconomyintheworldbeenthatofa

developingcountry,ratherthanadevelopedcountry.Secondly,forthefirsttimeinthe

modernera,thedominantcountryintheworld–whichIthinkiswhatChinawill

become–willbenotfromtheWestandfromvery,verydifferentcivilizationalroots.

NowIknowit’sawidespreadassumptionintheWestthat,ascountriesmodernize,

theyalsoWesternize.Thisisanillusion.It’sanassumptionthatmoder
