4.1.1BeamPurityIndicator(BPI)—TheBPIisadevice

usedforquantitativedeterminationofradiographicquality.Itis

apolytetra?uoroethyleneblockcontainingtwoboronnitride

disks,twoleaddisks,andtwocadmiumwires.Akeyfeatureof

theBPIistheabilitytomakeavisualanalysisofitsimagefor

subjectiveinformation,suchasimageunsharpnessand?lm

andprocessingquality.Densitometricmeasurementsofthe

imageofthedevicepermitquantitativedeterminationofthe

effectivevalueforthethermalneutroncontent,gammacontent,

pairproductioncontent,andscatteredneutroncontent.TheBPI

shallbeconstructedinaccordancewithPracticeE2003.
