    Theimplicitsystemofrulesthatconstitutesaperson’sknowledgeofalanguage.Thisincludesaperson’sabilitytocreateandunderstandsentences,includingsentencestheyhaveneverheardbefore,knowledgeofwhatareandwhatarenotsentencesofaparticularlanguage,andtheabilitytorecognizeambiguousanddeviant(distant)sentences.

    Forexample,aspeakerofEnglishwouldrecognizeIwanttogohomeasanEnglishsentence,butwouldnotacceptasentence,suchasIwantgoinghome,eventhoughallthewordsinitareEnglishwords.
