Abstract
Thearticledealswiththecomplexityofawashbackphenomenoninlanguagetesting.It
focusesonitspositiveeffectswithinaninstitutionaswellasonthesituationsof
negativewashback.Washbackispresentedasastimulusforachangeandasabridge
forefficientcommunicationbetweenteachersandtesters.Certainchangesasaresultof
positivewashbackpointattheoortunitieswhichatestinginstitutionhaswhenit
organizes,designsandadministerscriterionreferencedtests.
Thecomplexityofwashbackisconfirmedwhentheteachers’perspectiveisdiscussed.
Teachertesterrelationshipandthelackofteacherinsightintotestingmaycontributeto
negativewashback.Withinthisframe,concretesituationsaredescribedandlessons
learnedaresummarized.Intheconclusion,theteachersandtestersareremindedof
