ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF1774;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

Scope

Thisspecificationcoverssixmechanicaltestsandtheminimumperformancerequirementsforcarabinersdesignedspecificallyforthesportsofclimbingandmountaineering.

Twodifferenttypesofcarabinersaredefinedinthisstandard,non-lockingcarabinersandlockingcarabiners.

ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.

Testscontainedhereinaredestructiveinnature.Cara-binerssubjectedtoanyofthesetestsshallnotbeusedinanywayaftertestingexceptinevaluatingtheresultsofsuchtesting.

Thisspecificationdoesnotimplyapprovalofanymethodofuseofclimbingandmountaineeringcarabiners.Inaddition,thetestloadvaluescontainedhereinarenottobeinterpretedastheforceswhichaclimbingandmountaineeringcarabinermaybesubjectedto,orexpectedtosustaininactualfielduse.
