ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF2050;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

INTRODUCTION

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationisintendedtomitigatepotentialsafetyhazardsassociatedwithachild’suseofahand-heldinfantcarrierandtherebyminimizetheriskofinjuryordeath.Thespecifichazardsaddressedbythisstandardarecarrierhandlestrengthtosupporttheoccupant,producttipover,andfallsfromelevatedsurfaces.

Scope

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationestablishesperfor-mancerequirements,testmethods,andmarkingrequirementstopromotesafeuseofahand-heldinfantcarrierbyanoccupantandcaregiver.

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationisintendedtomini-mizetheriskofincidentstoanoccupantresultingfromnormaluseandreasonablyforeseeablemisuseorabuseofahand-heldinfantcarrier.

Nohand-heldinfantcarrierproducedaftertheapprovaldateofthisconsumersafetyspecification,eitherbylabelorothermeans,shallindicatecompliancewiththisspecification,unlessitconformstoallrequirementscontainedherein.

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationisnotintendedtoaddressaccidentsandinjuriesresultingfromtheinteractionofotherpersonswiththechildoccupantinahand-heldinfantcarrierortheaccidentsresultingfromabuseandmisusebychildrenabletowalk.

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationisnotintendedtoaddressincidentsorinjuriesresultingfromuseoftheproductinamotorvehicle,norisitintendedtoaddressanyissuesthatmayarisefromthemanufacturermeetingthecertificationrequirementsofFMVSS-213orotherap
