ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF1882;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

Scope

Thisspecificationcoversthemanufacture,assembly,recommendedmaintenanceanduseofcompleteresidentialbasketballsystems.

Thisspecificationisintendedtoreducethepotentialhazardsassociatedwiththeinstallationanduseofresidentialbasketballsystems.

Thisspecificationisnotintendedtoapplytothefollowing:

Equipmentintendedtobeusedinplacesofpublicassembly,suchas,butnotlimitedto,schools,parks,publicandprivaterecreationalfacilities.

Individualcomponents,suchasrim,backboard,pole,portablebasesystem,net,orothercomponentwhenthatcomponentisnotsoldasacompleteresidentialbasketballsystemasdefinedinthisspecification.

Anyresidentialbasketballsystemthatismountedtoanystructureorsurfaceotherthanthatwhichispurchasedaspartofacompleteresidentialbasketballsystem.Examplesinclude,butarenotlimitedto,roofmounting,wallmounting,oranylocallyorself-manufacturedcomponents.

Anybasketballequipmentthatdoesnotuseafullsizerim,18-in.(45.72-cm)diameter,orisdesignedforoperationalheightsoflessthen6ft6in.(1.98m)fromtheplayingsurfacetothebottomofthebackboard.
