ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF2050;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

INTRODUCTION

Thisconsumersafetyperformancespecificationisintendedtomitigatepotentialsafetyhazardsassociatedwithachild’suseofahand-heldinfantcarrierandtherebyminimizetheriskofinjuryordeath.Thespecifichazardsaddressedbythisstandardarecarrierhandlestrengthtosupporttheoccupant,producttipoverandfallsfromelevatedsurfaces.

Scope

Thisconsumersafetyperformancespecificationestab-lishesperformancerequirements,testmethodsandmarkingrequirementstopromotesafeuseofahand-heldinfantcarrierbyanoccupantandcaregiver.

Thisconsumersafetyperformancespecificationisin-tendedtominimizetheriskofincidentstoanoccupantresultingfromnormaluseandreasonablyforeseeablemisuseorabuseofahand-heldinfantcarrier.

Nohand-heldinfantcarrierproducedaftertheapprovaldateofthisconsumersafetyperformancespecification,eitherbylabelorothermeans,shallindicatecompliancewiththisspecification,unlessitconformstoallrequirementscontainedherein.

Thisconsumersafetyperformancespecificationisnotintendedtoaddressaccidentsandinjuriesresultingfromtheinteractionofotherpersonswiththechildoccupantinahand-heldinfantcarrierortheaccidentsresultingfromabuseandmisusebychildrenabletowalk.
