ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF2088;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

INTRODUCTION

ThisconsumersafetyspecificationaddressesinfantswingincidentsidentifiedbytheU.S.ConsumerProductSafetyCommission(CPSC).

InresponsetoincidentdatacompiledbytheCPSC,thisconsumersafetyspecificationattemptstominimizethefollowing:(1)swingstippingoverorcollapsing,(2)structuralfailures,and(3)entanglementintherestraintsorentrapmentinlegholes.Thisconsumersafetyspecificationisintendedtocovernormaluseandreasonablyforeseeablemisuseorabuseofinfantswings.Thisspecificationdoesnotcoverswingsthatareblatantlymisusedorusedinacarelessmannerthatdisregardsthesafetyinstructionsandwarningsprovidedwitheachinfantswing.

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationiswrittenwithinthecurrentstate-of-the-artofinfantswingtechnologyandwillbeupdatedwheneversubstantiveinformationbecomesavailablethatnecessitatesadditionalrequirementsorjustifiestherevisionofexistingrequirements.

Scope

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationestablishessafetyperformancerequirements,testmethods,andlabelingrequire-mentstominimizethehazardstoinfantspresentedbyswingsasidentifiedintheintroduction.

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationisintendedtomini-mizetheriskofinjuriestoinfantsresultingfromnormaluseandreasonablyforeseeablemisuseorabuseofinfantswings.Itisnotintendedtoaddressallincidentsandinjuriesresultingfromtheinteractionofotherpersonswiththeinfantintheswing.
