INTRODUCTION

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationaddressesincidentsassociatedwithnon-full-sizecribsthatwereidentifiedbytheU.S.ConsumerProductSafetyCommission(CPSC).

Incidentsassociatedwithwoodencribsinvolveddislodgmentofslatsduetobreakageorfailureofgluejoints,collapseofthemattresssupport,anddetachmentofscrews.Incidentsassociatedwithmesh/fabriccribsinvolvedtearsinthemeshsides,failureofstitchedseams,collapse,failureoflatchingmechanisms,andchokingonvinylorpaddingbittenfromthetoprail.

InresponsetotheincidentdatacollectedbytheCPSC,thisconsumersafetyspecificationattemptstominimizetheriskofinjuryordeathduetofailureofmattresssupporthardware,failureofgluedorboltedconnections,latchfailure,dislodgmentofteethingrails,entanglementoncordsorstrings,andtearsinmeshorfabricsides.Thisspecificationalsoaddressesincidentsassociatedwithpoormaintenanceorassemblybymeansofrequirementsforthecontentsofinstructionalliteraturethatmustaccompanyanon-full-sizecrib.
